We are getting close to the first day of school, and we have seen a lot of questions about what to expect. The school, and not the PTA is arranging and notifying parents about their gradual start date and the times of that.
We don’t have all of the information. However, we wanted to give you some information that we do know to help answer some of the questions you may have.
Gradual Start Week
Gradual start begins the first week of school. You will bring your child in on ONE day during the first week of school. That date will be sent to you by the school. No bus service is available for gradual start. You will need to drop off your child at 8:30am and pick up your child at 1pm on their gradual start day.
Kindergarten Open House
On Thursday, September 5th from 3pm-4pm will be the Kindergarten Open House. At that time you will find out who your child’s teacher will be. You will also be able to visit the classroom and pay for school supplies. For grades K-4 our school collects $30 for school supplies instead of giving out a supply list. This provides for school supplies for the whole school year. Assistance is available if needed. If you cannot attend the kindergarten open house, in the past the school has notified parent of who their teacher will be. It may also be available on Parentvue.
Back to School Night
The August 29th Back to School Night is geared toward 1st grade-5th grade. You are welcome to attend if you’d like to check out the school. We will have Kona Ice there, and your child can see the school and play on the playground. Your child will not have a packet or teacher assignment yet.

Volunteering
If you would like to chaperone a field trip or volunteer in your child’s classroom, you will need to complete the district’s Volunteer Application. It takes a bit of time to process, so it is better to do it early. You cannot volunteer at the school without doing this.

The district performs a background check. You also need to attend a volunteer training. In the past volunteer training has been available in the morning of your child’s gradual start date. Also training is available at 6pm the day of a PTA meeting. September 17th is the first PTA meeting. A training can also be arranged by appointment if necessary.
