Dear Clackamas Attendance Area Community,
This letter is intended to update you on the boundary realignment process.
Committee Work Completed:
Our 24-member committee, comprised of parents from every school in the Clackamas area, administrators, support staff and Board members met eight times since March 6, and hosted two Open Houses for public feedback as an opportunity to discuss the proposals with the committee. After reviewing and considering more than 450 submitted comments, our committee completed their work on May 16 and made a final recommendation to the Superintendent.
The committee worked hard to incorporate as much of the public feedback as possible. In many cases, that meant weighing two opposing opinions against our guiding principles and working to balance the target enrollment for each of our schools. It is impossible that everyone will see these decisions as a positive outcome. Change is difficult and not always welcomed. Our Principals stand ready to support all students in these transitions.
Next steps:
The Superintendent’s recommendation will go to the Board for first review and a discussion on May 24 with a final action item currently scheduled for the June 14 Board Meeting. Comments can be made to the Board either through writing to the Board Secretary hendersons or through public comment at the Board meeting. For more information, please see the School Board page http://www.nclack.k12.or.us/schoolboard.
There are transition decisions yet to be made. Once boundaries are approved by the Board, district staff will work to determine a transition plan to create the fewest changes possible for students.
Where to find information:
The final proposal and the committee report is available on our website at www.nclack.k12.or.us/boundary. If you have questions, please be sure to check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.
Sincerely,
Cindy Quintanilla
